naked pool

Ever wonder what the inside of an aboveground pool really looks like?

And yeah, that nasty green goo is the last remnants of the "water" we drained out of the pool. The last little puddle just couldn't be got up with the pump, so we cut a big circle around it in the liner -- vinyl cuts surprisingly easily, incidentally -- and then we got rid of the rest of the liner in sections, then just spilled the goo out onto the ground before we folded up the last piece of liner and stuffed it in a trash bag. The whole process took about an hour and a half.

We haven't gotten rid of it yet, but what we're going to do with it is take it apart into its component pieces and take it to the recycling center -- it's aluminum, and they'll pay us for it just like they pay for soda cans! If it weren't aluminum, we'd be taking it to the dump -- either in small loads in our SUV as we took it apart, or in a dumpster, if we ever got around to renting one.

Right now all kinds of scrap metal - even iron and steel - are getting good prices at scrap dealers. I heard on tv that people were climbing up and cutting down powerlines to get at the copper wire. I guess some of them get electrocuted. Ouch.

Mom, if they were stupid enough to try to SELL POWER LINES, they deserved it. ;)
